Jeff Raikes joined the Microsoft Alumni Foundation as Chair of the Board October 9, 2008. He has his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering-Economics Systems (EES) from Stanford University. After a brief stint with Apple Computer, Raikes joined Microsoft in 1981 as a product manager. He was named president of the Microsoft Business Division in 2005. In January 2008, he announced his retirement from Microsoft and in September 2008 Raikes launched the next chapter in his life, assuming the role of CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Raikes and his wife Tricia are deeply involved in their own giving, demonstrating a passion for education and children's issues. They founded the Raikes Foundation and are active members of the United Way of King County, where they served as co-chairs of the 2006-2007 fundraising campaign—setting a national record for dollars raised. A native Nebraskan, Raikes is also a supporter of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
Chuck Hirsch is a founding Partner of MHz, LLC, a strategic advisory firm focused on U.S.-China privatization opportunities. He served for six years as a Managing Director of Madrona Venture Group, where he continues his association with the firm as a Strategic Director.
Prior to this he co-founded Dare to Dream Intertainment, which was acquired by Microsoft Corporation. Dare to Dream pioneered the use of wireless technology in the home entertainment market. As an executive at Microsoft he co-led the development and launch of Microsoft's Actimates® product line, which revolutionized the interactive toy and early learning markets.
He served as Executive Vice President of the Amelior Foundation in New Jersey, where he helped to create the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, the national Points of Light Foundation, the One to One National Mentoring Partnership and the global Heal the World Foundation. Prior to this he served as Chief of Staff of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He is a former White House Fellow where he served as a Special Assistant in the offices of the U.S. Secretaries of Defense and the Navy.
In addition to serving as President of the board of the Microsoft Alumni Foundation, he is a Director of the Institute for Systems Biology, was a long-standing member of the Board of Trustees of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the White House Fellows Association, and was instrumental in the creation of Washington State's Life Sciences Discovery Fund. Mr. Hirsch is a graduate of Williams College.
Scott Oki retired after ten years with Microsoft, where he served in a variety of executive positions. Oki founded Microsoft's International Division and also served as Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing, and Service.
After leaving Microsoft, Oki founded Oki Developments, Inc., an investment company with diverse interests in real estate, golf course development and management, restaurants, a professional soccer team, and early to development stage information technology companies. He also founded the Oki Foundation, a nonprofit foundation focused on philanthropic activities both locally and nationally.
Oki sits on several advisory boards and boards of directors for both nonprofit and for-profit companies. He has also founded or co-founded over a dozen non-profit organizations, including the Japanese American Chamber of Commerce, Social Venture Partners, America's Foundation for Chess, Chief Seattle Council Boy Scout Foundation, Seattle Police Foundation and Sounders for Kids, just to name a few. He believes in marrying his "passion for things entrepreneurial with things philanthropic in a way that encourages others to do the same."
Oki earned an M.B.A. and a B.Sc. in accounting and information systems, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Colorado.
Paul Shoemaker is Executive Director of Social Venture Partners Seattle; a Seattle non-profit focused on children, education, and the environment in the fulfillment of two missions – helping non-profits build their organizational capacity and catalyzing individual, engaged philanthropy. He is also the Founding President of SVP International, a North American federation of SVP's in 23 cities. And he is the Board Treasurer of Grantmakers
For Effective Organizations, a national network of foundations focused on effectiveness and capacity building.
Prior to 1998, Mr. Shoemaker acted as the group manager for worldwide operations of the Microsoft Corporation, implementing Microsoft end user direct billing solutions as well as other business planning and development. At Microsoft he also developed a group of 22 direct marketing professionals and implemented a direct marketing infrastructure. During the 1980's Mr. Shoemaker worked as a Product Manager at Nestle USA in Glendale, CA.
During his career, Mr. Shoemaker has also served on the boards of the Children's Alliance in Seattle, '96-'00, and Treepeople in Los Angeles, '87-'90. Paul Shoemaker holds an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Texas and a BBA in Accounting from Iowa State University.
Sharon Maghie retired from Microsoft in 2000 after 14 years in Finance and Human Resources. Prior to leaving, she served as Director of Human Resources' Operations, where she managed Benefits, Employee Stock Services, Payroll, Expatriate Programs, and the Human Resources Information Center.
Before joining Microsoft, Maghie worked at an investment-banking firm in Bellevue. She currently focuses her attention on issues concerning children. Maghie is the Co-founder of the Washington Chapter of Friends of the Children, and has served as Chairman of the Board since its inception in 2000. She continues to be a driving force behind the success of this nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to children at risk.
Maghie holds a B.A. and an M.P.A./M.B.A. from the University of Washington.
Tony Audino founded the Microsoft Alumni Network in 1995, and currently serves as its Chairman. He is also the founding president of MSAF.
Audino joined Microsoft in 1987, holding several management positions over the next seven years. In his role as the Director of Marketing for MS-DOS, he had worldwide product management responsibility for this $600 million business. He also served as Director of Business Development and Strategic Relations for Microsoft's Systems Software Division; prior to joining the Systems Software Division, he worked in the Company's Finance group.
In 1997, Audino co-founded Voyager Capital, a venture capital firm with offices in Seattle and Silicon Valley and $365 million under management. At Voyager, Audino participated on the boards of 15 companies, including 13 portfolio companies primarily focused on business software and services.
In July 2006, Audino co-founded and currently serves as CEO of Conenza, a Seattle based company that builds and manages trusted, collaborative, unique global online communities. The Conenza Community Platform is the official alumni management and social networking solution for some of Fortune Magazine’s Most Admired Companies.
Audino's community involvement includes serving on the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees for the Fulcrum Foundation, created to ensure that Catholic schools remain excellent and accessible to all.
