"As we look into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others." – Bill Gates

MSAF Press Release - October 2, 2007

OCTOBER 2, 2007 - Microsoft Alumni Foundation announced today hiring Anne Garrett Addison as their first Executive Director. Ms. Addison has helped launch three other nonprofits, including the Lake Washington Schools Foundation, the International Preeclampsia Alliance and the Preeclampsia Foundation. She was recently selected as one of thirteen finalists for the L'Oreal 2007 Women of Worth Award for her work in preeclampsia. Ms. Addison co-founded the Preeclampsia Foundation in 1999 after her near-death experience due to preeclampsia in 1996 and subsequent complicated delivery in 1999. During her time there she was appointed a member of the National Institute of Health's Hypertension in Pregnancy Task Force, announced the U.S. Senate Healthy Moms Act, featured in a cover story in Glamour magazine (3/02), organized the first International Preeclampsia Summit funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and provided tangible support to countless families and particularly mothers, over the Internet, the phone and in person.

Microsoft Alumni Foundation (MSAF), a 501(c)(3) public charity, grew out of the Microsoft Alumni Network (MSA) which was founded in 1995. "Anne has the entrepreneurial, organizational and strategic skills to be a great leader for MSAF." said Tony Audino, Board Chair. "We're delighted to have her as Executive Director and a member of the board. We know she will bring the same passion to MSAF that she's brought to her other ventures;" said Mr. Audino.

Microsoft Alumni Foundation is still in the formative stages. In early 2008, it plans to finalize its vision, mission and initiatives. "As part of Microsoft for years, we all know the satisfaction felt by playing a role in helping to change the world. With MSAF, we're excited and humbled by the opportunity to impact the world again in a different way," said Scott Oki, MSAF board member.

"Microsoft is excited about the possibilities the Microsoft Alumni Foundation presents…with 60,000+ alumni throughout the world-the potential is enormous," said Akhtar Badshah, Senior Director of Microsoft Community Affairs. "We look forward to working with MSAF to make every dollar count."
